Homemade Pore Strips

Lately I have seen a pin on Pinterest about homemade pore strips. I have a trouble spot on my chin that is pretty bad and decided I would try it out. My sister-in-law, Shelby, came out to the house so we did it together.

I followed the simple instructions from Petit Elefant . My mother in law had unflavored gelatin on hand, so the whole project cost me $0.

Here is what you  will need:
-1 Tbls unflavored gelatin
-1 Tbls Milk
-Disposable cup (I guess this is in case it adheres to the cup, then you can just toss it)
-Popsicle stick or other device to apply the mixture

Mix the milk and gelatin together in a disposable cup. Microwave 10-15 seconds. Apply to your face quickly and liberally with the stick.

We had some fun peeling it off. It was quite satisfying.

Here are my critiques:
First off, I thought it smelled like rotten milk. Blech.
Second, it peeled off a little skin. I may have left it on too long, but it's a bit raw now.
Third, it makes quite a bit and I only used a tiny bit. The rest was thrown away.

My skin does feel more smooth. So that's good. And it's cheap. Which is good, too. I didn't see any blackheads on the strip and I still see them on my chin, so I don't think that worked too well. I wouldn't really call it a "pore strip" since my pores don't look cleaner.
Overall, I give it a 2 out of 5.

Shelby's critique is that it pulled off some skin in some parts, and in other parts it wouldn't peel off. She had to rub it off quite a bit. Perhaps that could be remedied by slathering more on in the first stage. She likes the way here skin felt in some parts, but other parts were a little raw. She said she would use it again, but not necessarily as a pore strip.
She gave it a 3 out of 5.

  1. I tried this too the other night. For me it all peeled off but it didn't really clean out my pores too much, more like waxing the hair off (and not where I would have really wanted it to)! And I agree, smelt yucky!
